today's "THRIFT SCORE" included some super-COOL vintage kicks from the 1970's...
...I've had tons of vintage sneaks but never before have I seen these Bata brand John Wooden signature shoes...the lot also included a pair of minty fresh Dr J Cons plus we snagged several pairs of Viking Brand athletic shoes...

these "vintage snaps" are dedicated to my late father who went over the rainbow to stir it up "someplace else" nearly 23 years ago...today would have been his birthday...Dad was a lover, a fighter and a race-car driver...not so good a dad or a lover, but one hell of a fighter and race-car driver...I can only hope that a little of that heart, style and competitive spirit has rubbed-off on me and in turn has been passed on to my son...Happy Birthday Pops!

hit-up the local skatepark today...sunny and mild, unusual for a Christmas Eve here in Kentucky...takes me back to an equally mild day, 1974 Christmas Day, Toms River NJ...perhaps my favorite Christmas ever (at least in my first 15 years), for under the tree, was my first "Dream Skateboard" and the catalyst that has led to a life-long passion...I had seen this skateboard many times on my visits to Grogs Surf Palace in nearby Seaside...the Logan Earth-Ski, custom built with Chicago Trucks and Cadillac Wheels...Thirty Inches of pure white birchwood with the newest and hottest urethane wheels on the market...I didn't think my parents got the skateboard thing and at about $100 (real money back in 1974) I was certain I'd never see such a present under the tree...I bet I rode that thing for 14 hours that day!...of course I've had better Christmas mornings since then, but that one sure makes me smile everytime I skate...

my earlist memory of collecting began when I found a Warren G Harding campaign button in a box of old trinkets within my late grandfathers army footlocker...I was 10 and that was 40+ years ago...my pinback collection is long gone but my affliction remains...

I spotted this beautiful Vintage Tote on Ebay last night...it was being offered as an Antique Double Gun Carrier ("Antique Double Gun Carrier Stunning Vintage Canvas Leather Double Gun Case 1920s")...the listing came from the United Kingdom...what a treat for all you lovers of Distressed Leather and well worn Duck Canvas, how could you not cream your jeans over this one?...the details are amazing!...$325 US at "hammer-time" seems bit low for such a fabulous piece...they just don't make patina like this anymore!

todays "Thrift Score" is super-Fresh and super-Cool...I'm guessing this suitcase to be Korean War vintage?...the small address window reads; Mrs. John B Richardson, Hotel Golden Gate, Room 708...when I spotted this little cutie, it was being used as a container at the local flea to sell old magazines...I'm happy to have rescued it and set it free!
